Northeastern Oregon

Central Wallowa Mountains and upper Wallowa Valley from Polaris Pass

The northeastern corner of Oregon is far from being just rolling hills and sagebrush. The stunning Wallowa Mountains, reaching up with jagged peaks up to about 9800 feet in elevation, have been christened the Alps of Oregon. Hells Canyon is wide, vast, and the deepest canyon in North America. The Blue Mountains are broad, rich in history, and contain rugged, Rocky Mountain-esque subranges such as Elkhorn Ridge and the Strawberry Range. This page will contain links to adventuring opportunities in and the history, ecology, and geology of this impressive region of the state.
